Durability is important when it comes to roofing materials. Because of their well-known durability and strength, corrugated metal roofs are a popular option for both residential and commercial buildings. But in order for even the hardest roofs to endure the weather over time, they must be properly sealed and protected. Durable flooring caps can help with that.
Flooring caps are covers made especially for corrugated boards that protect the exposed ends of roofing panels. Usually constructed of metal or PVC, these caps provide a strong barrier against moisture, debris, and pests. Flooring caps contribute to the longevity of the entire roofing system by firmly covering the ends of the corrugated sheets.
Preventing water intrusion is one of the main purposes of flooring caps. Unprotected corrugated ends can let water in, which can eventually cause rust, corrosion, and structural damage. After years of exposure to severe weather, the flooring caps’ tight seal efficiently keeps out rain, snow, and ice, preserving the roof’s structural integrity.
Flooring caps improve waterproofing and add to the aesthetic appeal of corrugated roofs. Their diverse range of colors and finishes allow them to blend in with the building’s overall aesthetic while maintaining a smooth, polished appearance along the roof’s edges. In addition to increasing curb appeal, this gives the roofing installation a polished appearance.

Tasks of crate for corrugated board
There are two purposes for the crate beneath the corrugated board:
- be a base for fastening the finish material;
- serve as a substrate between the waterproofing film and the outer layer of the roof pie.
In carrying out the second task, a unique flooring creates a ventilation duct that prevents materials covered in rot and condensation from entering the roof structure.
Types of flooring for a profiled sheet
Three options can be placed in a crate beneath the corrugated board:
- with the usual step, that is, quite common and arranged so that boards, bars or metal profiles are located through intervals of 15–49 cm;
- continuous, elements of which are laid out through the intervals of 1 cm, necessary to avoid deformation of the boards that change the shape under the influence of changes in humidity and temperature;
- Sluttered or, differently, built of parts at a distance of 50–75 cm from each other and suitable exclusively for a durable finish material.
It is better to construct simple metal structures. Additionally, it is better to use sturdy wood to construct flooring with regular steps or without any gaps.
The sizes of the crate under the profile
Selecting the right crate to place beneath corrugated board will help you determine the right step and structural element cross section.
The interval of the flooring
The brand, thickness, and degree of inclination of the roofing ramp all have an impact on the interval between different elements of the crate beneath the profiled sheet.
Every brand has a unique carrying capacity. For instance, sheets with the marking N-75, which designates that the material is meant exclusively for the roof, are regarded as stiff because of their substantial wave height (75 mm) and substantial thickness (up to 0.9 mm), which allow them to be laid on distant metal details from one another without any issues.
Table: Step of the crate in conjunction with the brand of corrugated board
Mark Profilist | The degree of roof slope | The thickness of the material (mm) | Interval of chatter |
S-8 | ≥15 ° | 0.5 | 1 cm |
S-10 | |||
≥15 ° | ≤30 cm | ||
S-20 | 0.5–0.7 | 1 cm | |
≥15 ° | ≤50 cm | ||
S-21 | ≤30 cm | ||
≥15 ° | ≤65 cm | ||
NS-35 | ≤50 cm | ||
≥15 ° | ≤1 m | ||
N-60 | ≤8 ° | 0.7-0.9 | ≤3 m |
N-75 | ≤4 m |
The section of the details
The crate’s components ought to extend beyond the profiled sheet. Additionally, their width is limited to 15 cm.
A width of 10 cm is thought to be ideal. Changes in humidity and temperature can deform larger boards more easily.
When it comes to corrugated board flooring, the standard thickness is 32 mm. When there aren’t many wind and snow loads on the roof (see the maps below), use a thinner material (20–25 mm) to make a crate. They use a 5 cm thick crate in areas where there is a lot of pressure on the roof.
To arrange the crate beneath the profiled sheet, wooden bars measuring 50×50 mm, 60 × 60 mm, and 75 × 75 mm are appropriate cross sections to use in addition to the boards.
The device of the crate
The required layers of the roofing cake, which comes with a corrugated board crate, are as follows:
- interior decoration (for example, from boards and drywall);
- vapor barrier;
- rafters frame;
- insulation;
- roofing material or waterproof film;
- vertically nailed bars with a thickness of 40 or 50 mm (counterparty);
- crate;
- Finish coating.
The counter’s components will give a roofing cake the channel it needs to properly ventilate every layer.
Installation of the foundation for corrugated board
Strict guidelines are followed when laying the crate that will hold the corrugated board for the recording.
Scheme
Affix a crate horizontally to wooden rails, fastening the waterproofing material on the rafters. A cornice board, which is thicker than the other wooden details, should be its first component.
The height of the wave of profiled material and the length of the mounting elements driven or screwed from the front side of the roof’s finish coating are taken into consideration when choosing the thickness of the cornice board.
It is advisable to mount the extra board in the skate and cornice areas of the roof on the extra board, regardless of the level of structure construction. The locations where the ventilation and chimney pipes pass through the roof should be reinforced with the same material.
Every label can be found at the same intervals. Mounting closer to each other are only the ridge boards and cornice.
The end zones of the roof are where wind boards are installed. They are nailed up so that their level with the rest of the crate is just marginally higher. The profiled sheet’s wave height and the height of the wind boards should line up.
Structure mounting
Starting from the bottom, the crate’s components are fastened to the roof. There are four steps to the work:
- Boards or bars are treated with an antiseptic and dried during the day.
- A rope is pulled to the edge of the slope, the horizontalness of which is checked by the construction level.
- To simplify the installation, create a wooden workpiece, the length of which is equal to the length of the interval of the crate.
- Focusing on the rope and using the template, on the roof frame horizontally fix the elements of the crate. The boards are connected to the rafters with two fasteners. In this case, the first latch should be closer to one edge of the board, and the second – closer to the other. And the bars are attached with one nail clogged in the very middle of the material.
The following guidelines must direct us as we fix the crate:
- The optimal fastener length will be the one that is 3 times larger than the thickness of the crate;
- Details of the structure are joined exclusively in places of intersection with rafters;
- On one rafter leg, it is impossible to connect the elements of the neighboring rows of wooden flooring;
- It is better to fix the boards or bars of the crate with nails or brackets, and metal parts – only with self -tapping screws.

To ensure your roof lasts a long time and is protected, you must select sturdy roofing caps for corrugated boards. These caps are essential for weatherproofing and sealing against environmental elements, in addition to improving the visual appeal of your building.
It’s crucial to take into account materials that can resist inclement weather, including wind, rain, and UV exposure, when choosing roofing caps. Durable plastics and metals like steel and aluminum are popular options because of their resilience and capacity to withstand corrosion over time.
The efficacy of roofing caps also depends on their proper installation. A tight fit and adequate sealing lessen the possibility of water leaks and damage to the corrugated board underneath. This measure not only increases the roof’s longevity but also helps save energy by preserving a steady interior temperature.
Roofing caps can be made to last as long as possible with regular maintenance and inspections. The lifespan of the caps and the underlying roof structure can be greatly increased by looking for any indications of wear and tear, making sure the seals are intact, and taking quick action to fix any problems.
"Corrugated board caps provide a workable solution for homeowners thinking about long-lasting flooring options. These caps offer a flexible surface that can tolerate weather conditions and foot traffic in addition to strengthening the structural integrity of roofs. Corrugated board caps are a dependable option for protecting roofs and increasing the value of residential properties because they not only ensure long-term durability but also improve aesthetic appeal."
