Polymer roof from the Technonikol membrane – Analysis of properties and installation algorithm

In Europe, 70% of roofs are made of membranes; in Russia and the CIS, demand for these types of roofs has only recently started to increase. The start of such roofing coatings’ active production by domestic businesses is a sign of the products’ rising popularity.

Specifically, within the sentences is frequently a Technonikol membrane, whose cost both draws attention and prompts consideration of the wisdom of saving.

Characteristics of the roof membrane from "Technonikol"

In contrast to traditional hydraulic tanks, which serve only as cheat insulation, PVC membranes are installed by the final layer. This method reduces the number of roof pie layers and gives the roof nearly flawless waterproofing for an extended period of time, but it also raises the material’s requirements.

A roof membrane: what is it?

An elastic polyvinyl chloride base serves as the foundation for a multilayer waterproofing material called a polymer membrane for roofing. The canvas is made up of three main parts:

  • textured polyvinyl chloride of an anti -slip surface and protection against atmospheric phenomena and ultraviolet rays;
  • intertwined in a special way of textile and polyester threads that perform a reinforcing function;
  • Lower PVC-layer.

What distinguishes the products of a sizable Russian holding company from those from foreign membranes, about which there are essentially no complaints?

Selection and labeling of Technonikol membrane roofing

In the nearly three decades the company has been in business, its assortment line of roof membranes made of plasticized polyvinyl chloride has expanded to include over ten different types. They are split up into various groups:

  • Logicroof-premium material, characterized by a high thickness (up to 2.4 mm), the possibility of choosing color (light gray, blue, red, white, green) and woven reinforcing base;
  • ECOPLAST is a more economical option in which UV stabilizers are also present, but it is made on the basis of non-woven polyester and has a lower thickness (up to 2 mm);
  • Logicpool-a two-layer PVC membrane with a lower bactericidal layer is characterized by resistance to chemical reagents, and therefore is suitable for a waterproof coating of the pool bowl.

Roofing coatings have a marking in addition to their brand that denotes specific compositional variations that are significant for a given application area:

  • V – RP – a membrane reinforced with a polyester mesh of a special weaving, is used to isolate a roofing plane, parapets and junctions in systems with mechanical fastening;
  • Siberia, Arctic-developed by the Technonikol specialists of the PVC membrane (their price differs from V-RP by about 20%), taking into account the climatic features of the northern regions;
  • V – SR – uninhabited film suitable for pipe insulation, as well as enhancing internal and outer angles in vulnerable places;
  • V – GR – a waterproofing coating especially resistant to punctures and breakthroughs, which is recommended to be used in the arrangement of inversion and ballast roof structures;
  • T -SL is an uninhabited membrane, consisting of two layers of yellow (front side) and black (back) color; Due to the lack of UV stabilization, it is used only for water protection of the underground parts of buildings and structures.

All of these materials, identified as fleece-backed, have all the usual properties plus an extra fleece layer that makes them suitable for use in adhesive systems.

The fundamental characteristics of different membrane types

Due to reinforcement and the addition of special stabilizers, the PVC-membrane "Technonikol," which is made of a dense polymer fabric, is resistant to extreme temperatures and direct sunlight and can last for at least 25 to 30 years (though the manufacturer only offers a 10-year guarantee). Simultaneously, it is advised to install it on one of the hardest types of roofs currently in use: flat roofs (which have an inclination angle ranging from 0 to 5 degrees), including quickly vested buildings.

There is no question about the material’s primary qualities, which are its light weight and high fire safety.

Because a square meter of coating typically weighs 1.5 kg, you can reduce the foundation, walls, and roofing’s bearing capacity without compromising structural integrity. Simultaneously, the laying process requires little time at all; an experienced team can cover a 600 kV roof in a working day without experiencing too much stress.

The reason for the high class of fire resistance (all of the membrane waterproofing materials in the "Technonikol" line are classified as non-hazardous and low-haired) is that the starting raw material used in their production, polyvinyl chloride, does not support combustion and smolders as soon as the fire source is removed. Thus, at this point, domestic membranes are identical to their foreign counterparts.

Other aspects of the membrane, such as its mechanical, operational, and physical properties, are directly related to its type. The Logicroof membrane can therefore be stretched to a high tensile strength (more than 1100 N/50 mm), maintain flexibility on bars with a diameter of 5 mm up to –45 degrees, and have enough elasticity (the material can lengthen by more than 15% at maximum load). These numbers closely resemble the indicators of Western counterparts, which are nearly twice as expensive as "Technonikol" roofing membranes.

A comparison and cost analysis of Logicroof and Ecoplast

Even with the reverence for numbers, roofing professionals still advise selecting PVC covers made abroad. They defend this by pointing out that the material’s longer lifespan (50 years) offset its higher cost (7–9 euros per square meter). A Logicroof membrane is an option if these costs are not factored into the estimate (with labor included, they rise to 15 euros per square meter). It offers a number of benefits.

  • The upper layer of the membrane represented by the Logicroof brand is smooth, while it is structured by Ecoplast – this improves the anti -slip properties of Ecoplast, however, reduces the thickness and, presumably, the service life (the thinner the film, the faster the plasticizers are disappeared, and the material is cramped);
  • Non -woven base (Ecoplast) is considered less reliable than woven (logicroof), since it withstands the much smaller value of wind load, tensile and rupture efforts; At the same time, the woven polyester is significantly more expensive than non-woven and, as a result, the price of PVC membrane for the “Technonikol” roof of the premium segment is always higher;
  • Logicroof almost a third wins with Ecoplast in terms of compounding compounds: 120 N/50 mm versus 80 N/50 mm.

The Siberia and Arctic stamps can be installed at -20 degrees, the Logicroof polymer membranes at -20 degrees, and Ecoplast at -15 degrees. The manufacturer does not place restrictions on the seasonality of the installation work. Both brands’ membranes come in rolls with a standard width of 2.1 meters, making it possible to lay canvases with the fewest possible seams. The roll of film has a length of 15 to 25 meters, depending on its thickness.

Which drawbacks are crucial to be aware of beforehand

The following are typical drawbacks of Russian and European membranes:

  • Fast loss of the brightness of the roof, especially when using PVC membranes in the southern regions;
  • incompatibility with bitumen -containing materials, solvents, impressive and extruded polystyrene foam;
  • the release of volatile fractions into the environment, as a result of which the characteristics of the coating are worsening, environmental harm is caused;
  • low rupture strength when installing adhesive, due to which it is necessary to use welding equipment.

To be fair, I have to point out that the domestic manufacturer takes great care to get rid of these little details, provides a wide range of technical solutions for different types of roofs, and does not turn down service support. It has developed an assortment of all necessary parts for PVC membrane adhesive, sealants, adjacent elements, external and internal corners, funnels, and overflows in order to make the installation as quick and technologically advanced as possible.

Installation of a membrane roof – general recommendations and step -by -step instructions

Both the old soft coating and the roof of the new building can be covered with the membrane without having to be removed. It is advisable to consult a specialist who can assess the actual condition of the roof before pursuing the last option. A manual or automatic welding machine provides the hot air needed to weld membrane paintings. It is preferable to entrust the stacker with the appropriate certificate with the task in order to prevent technological errors.

Important aspects of getting ready for work

It can’t be argued that the installation process is overly difficult or overwhelming for someone new to the construction industry, but it does call for the use of a high-quality tool and close attention to numerous details:

  • The material should be stored away from heating devices, in the factory packaging in a horizontal position (the maximum permissible slope does not exceed 3 degrees) no more than two tiers;
  • You should proceed to work after the wind load and the corresponding number of fasteners are calculated;
  • The recommended type of equipment is the LEISTER TRIAC S, PID or automatic welding machine Leister Varimat;
  • To obtain a high -quality weld, before starting work, it is necessary to check the voltage in the mains – with its unsatisfactory stability, it is worth using stabilizers;
  • The equipment should also be checked – the nozzle of the construction hairdryer should be cleaned of the carbon, it is not allowed to use it in a deformed form;
  • In gloomy days of day, it is important to provide sufficient lighting on the roof and carry out appropriate safety measures;
  • You can lay the membrane only in a temperature range of a certain instructions, given that the use of chemical components is possible at a temperature of at least +5 degrees;
  • To protect the roofing, when laying it on the supporting base, it is necessary to provide a separation layer of geotextile with a density of at least 300 g/sq. m;
  • The edges of the monolithic sheet obtained as a result of welding are fixed along the perimeter of the roof with mechanically – plastic dowels (metal metizes are not used, since they contribute to the appearance of cold bridges).

Use linear fasteners (rails) and a nozzle that produces a double seam when welding cloths at locations where there is a chance of wind-related roof damage. Simultaneously, there is sufficient single-layer coating; no additional layer is required.

Tools for the installation process

A collection of parts and equipment is required for the fastest and most effective installation possible:

  • manual (automatic) hairdryer;
  • slit nozzles (20 and 40 mm);
  • roller rollers (28 and 40 mm);
  • suture test for checking;
  • fasteners;
  • Contact glue for PVC membranes (for temporary gluing the material to the base surface, but not for the adhesive system);
  • Technonikol Cleaner (used to remove pollution in the weld zone).

It is worthwhile to weld two small membrane canvases together as a trial before beginning installation work. They ought to be joined to form a single, seamless sheet. It is advised to mechanically fasten the 50 mm-wide material strip and attempt to rip it out in order to test its resistance. If the membrane bursts but the fasteners stay in place, the outcome is deemed positive.

An algorithm for laying roof membranes

It’s crucial to follow the algorithm created by the business’s technical support service when installing it:

  1. Construction around the perimeter of the roof in the adjacent places to the vertical surfaces of the L-shaped profile made of galvanized steel with a thickness of 0.7 mm (the size of the profile must be determined at the place).
  2. Strengthening places around through passages with a sheet of galvanized steel with the corresponding size of the hole.
  3. Installation of steam and thermal insulation.
  4. Laying of membranes with an overlap of 60 cm and the performance of point fasteners in several places.
  5. Setting up equipment by 450-550 degrees (settings parameters depend on weather conditions).
  6. The formation of a weld (for this you need to insert a hot hairdryer and, drawing a nozzle along the line of the connection, roll it with an effort to the roller towards the seam).

It is advised to check the seam’s readiness. To do this, the sample should be able to be easily drawn at the seam, being careful not to poke the seam with its tip. Moreover, liquid PVC treatment of the connection is required.

The manufacturer guarantees a minimum of thirty years of service life and excellent quality roofing surface, as long as it complies with technology.

PVC membrane for the roof of Technonikol: characteristics, installation guide

The roof is regarded as a building’s most crucial structural component. The device’s quality determines both the interior comfort level and the structure’s dependability. The choice of roofing is not the last factor to consider. Today’s construction market offers developers new, more advanced, high-tech membrane roof versions in addition to conventional methods of arrangement.

You can achieve a seamless coating with membrane technology. This technique works on any type of roof, be it flat, tent, or another type of roof. This technology also has the benefit of not requiring extra moisture protection. Technonikol’s PVC roof membrane is among the best examples of such coatings.

One common polyvinyl chloride membrane for elastic roofs is the PVC membrane, which took the place of the EPDM variant. It stands out for having exceptional strength and dependability.

Roofing PVC Membrane Technonikol: Advantages

With this material, you can give elements and a roof structure the appropriate level of protection. There are numerous benefits to using such a roof device:

  • There is no need for the device of additional waterproofing of the surface of the structure, as well as the special protection of the "dangerous" areas;
  • simple installation;
  • the use of seamless waterproofing technology allows you to get a single surface;
  • biological and chemical neutrality, that is, the surface does not need to be constantly protected from the formation of fungi, mold and destruction;
  • resistance to a large number of sharp temperature changes process;
  • the ability to lay at any level and height of the built house;
  • The resulting coating provides the same degree of protection both on surfaces with different angles of inclination, and in the locations.;
  • They are vapor permeable, therefore, accumulated moisture can easily be removed from the underlying space. This also means that if a heater is provided in the roofing cake, it does not get wet and moisture does not accumulate in it.

As a result, one of the most dependable constructive solutions that fully satisfies the contemporary standards for roofing material is the PVC membrane.

Furthermore, the cost of a PVC membrane for the technological roof is very appealing, making this material nearly the most widely used in the home building industry.

This material’s remarkable properties enable you to use it for:

  • arranging a flat roof of any type, including operated . PVC membrane from the techno -nicol for the operated roof of the green lawn of the type contains fungicidal additives;
  • repair work;
  • restoration of old roofs.

The material is made up of three layers that give it elasticity and dependability. Elements that have been rolled out can be firmly positioned in any direction on any surface.

  • The upper one is a flexible base on the basis of PVC, a material capable of elasticity to resist all kinds of effects. In addition to polyvinyl chloride, among its components there are chemical elements, thanks to which its resistance to high temperatures increases. They do not support combustion and prevent the penetration of direct fire on subsequent layers. In the surface layer, a high concentration of absorbers of UV rays.
  • The middle is reinforcing. It has a complex structure – intertwined fibers of polymers and threads form a strong grid that can withstand the loads created by the weight of the snow for a long time or a large amount of liquid.
  • The lower is the gray layer of polyvinyl chloride, which is necessary to limit the effect on the coating of the surfaces or structural elements in contact with it.

What are PVC membranes

  • ECOPLAST V-RP. Used for the waterproofing device for roofing structures. In this case, the mechanical method of attaching the base is used. There is a special anti -slip embossing on the surface, thanks to which it is much safer to work in the rain and when snow falls. Moreover, it makes it possible to equip the roof with the angle of inclination, with a large 10 percent.
  • ECOPLAST V-GR. Used in the installation of a waterproofing layer for ballast flat roofs and operated. They have increased strength for puncture, thanks. The material is resistant to ultravioletus, contains antifungal additives. He does not lose elasticity even at temperatures below zero.

  • Logicroof V-RP. This is a premium material reinforced with a polyester net. Protected from ultraviolet radiation. It includes antipypees and stabilizing components. Has an increased level of elasticity, which greatly facilitates the structure of the roof at low temperatures.
  • Logicroof V-Sr. This uninhabited canvas is used in the arrangement of adjustments with all kinds of roofs for pipe, funnels, parapets, as well as amplification elements. The material is included in the roofing set.
  • Logicroof Arctic – intended for use in cold regions. Has a three -layer structure, reinforced with polyester polyester grid. It is distinguished by absolute bio resistance.

Technonikol’s PVC roofing membrane: Cost

Fundamentals of installation technology

Tasks are completed in accordance with Technonikol’s PVC membrane installation instructions (refer to the article’s conclusion). We highlight the key elements and phases of the device for these kinds of designs.

  • The surface of application of the material is preliminarily cleaned of dirt and moisture, sharp angles and elements of the type of reinforcement and metal elements are removed, which can damage the coating;
  • It is also necessary to clean the welded surfaces of the material itself from various pollution:
  • For dust, mud use a damp cloth;
  • for bitumen, oils, glue residues or other – a cleaner for PVC Membram Technonikol.
  • The canvas is spread evenly, gradually removing the air between the contacting surfaces;
  • lay out each section and individual elements into a single design;
  • The PVC membrane is thermoplastic, therefore, for their connection and docking they use the technology of soldering hot air. This allows you to perform installation quickly enough in general throughout the entire area;
  • The coating should be fixed throughout the contour, as well as in the locations.

When using an adjustment device for point mounting membranes without a foil substrate, a thin layer of contact adhesive specifically designed for PVC membranes is applied. Because of its unique consistency, it is consumed in small amounts. The glue stops adhering to the hands as soon as the solvent evaporates, taking off like a rocket. This makes the installation process much simpler. The gluing site forms a transparent seam. The gluing quality lasts for a considerable amount of time.
