Depending on the loads on the roof and the features of the rafter system, the side overlap is one or two waves. When installing roofs with a small slope angle, two waves are needed to increase the flooring’s tightness and strength.

Proceed with the working width of the sheet material when calculating the flooring for the roofing; otherwise, you might not have enough later.


The thickness of the metal is an important factor to consider when selecting a profile for a roof. Roll steel, which has a thickness of between 0.45 and 1.2 mm, can be used to manufacture this type of material. The formula n = (a+b)/d is used to carry out calculations, while:

  • A – the length of the slope;
  • C-the length of the edge of the sheet, which should protrude beyond the cut of the cornice (5-10 cm);
  • D is the length of the profiled sheet;
  • N – number of sheets.

Subsequently, N1 = n+n × c/d is used to perform the calculation, while:

  • C is the length of the overlap (from 15 to 20 cm, the manufacturer indicates the exact value).
  • Then the obtained values ​​(N and N1) are summarized and rounded to the whole number.

Calculation of the width of the sheet

The width of the slope (horizontal length) must be divided into a useful roofing width in order to determine how many sheets of corrugated board will be laid along its length.

The final result is increased by 50 mm to the cornice ledges. A complex roof should have the calculation done individually for each slope.

It makes sense to mount the coating in other roof areas using large scraps. In addition, the sheets are only mounted in one direction on each slope, permitting symmetrical tearing. The sheets cannot be installed because of the variations in the size of the castle shelf. When planning and estimating the roof’s coating, this should be considered.
