Comprehending the different elements of a roof is essential for both builders and homeowners. One essential component is the size of the main components of a roof structure. These components, which include beams, trusses, and rafters, are essential to maintaining the weight of the roof and distributing it to the walls of the building safely.
Important structural elements called rafts run from the roof’s ridge or peak to the eaves. Their measurements are vital since they establish the roof’s pitch or steepness. Rafferts, which are normally composed of metal or wood, are positioned uniformly along the roof’s width to support the roof deck and its coverings.
Conversely, trusses are prefabricated triangle-based structural frameworks. These triangles provide strength and stability by effectively distributing the weight of the roof to the walls. Depending on the span and load requirements of the roof, trusses are available in a variety of designs and sizes. They are frequently engineered to exact dimensions to guarantee structural integrity.
Beams, sometimes referred to as joists or purlins, are horizontal structural components that support the roof deck and distribute the weight onto the building’s load-bearing walls or columns. They are necessary for larger roofs or situations where longer distances require support because they extend between walls or columns. Dimensions of beams are established by elements like material strength, span length, and load-bearing capacity.
It is essential to comprehend these measurements in order to design and build a roof that is safe, long-lasting, and functional. For your roof to last a long time and perform well, it is crucial that these components are installed and sized correctly in accordance with building codes and structural standards, whether you are designing a new construction project or remodeling an old roof.

Metal tape: definition
Roofing material that mimics regular tiles is metal-embossed metal sheet. Here, a metal tile is a profiled sheet formed of thin steel alloy, whereas natural tiles are tiny, individual components.
The roofing itself has a very thin base—no more than 0.55 mm. The application of the protective soil layer and then the galvanized coating later on forms the thickness and, consequently, the strength of the material. It can be made of plastisol, purple, PVDF, or polyester. Polymers give the metal tile sheets reliable adhesion to the roof’s rafter base and shield them from various mechanical damages.
Important: Unlike laying natural tiles, the dimensions of the roof sheet of metal allow you to block the entire roof quickly and artistically. This will be a non-commodity, non-cosmopolitan type of work.
The whole metal is separated into the following types based on the kind of metal that is used to produce it:
- Steel. The most popular type of roofing. Demand for it is due to good technical characteristics and a favorable price. This, so to speak, is a classic among types of profile sheet.
- Aluminum. This coating is easy. But at the same time, a special oxide film protects the profile from negative external factors.
- Qing titanium. The most durable of the presented types of metal. At the same time, it has excellent flexibility in combination with strength.
- Copper. The most expensive species of roofing. At the same time, not the most durable/durable. Soft copper is able to deform. But copper itself does not require coloring and remains attractive in its natural form.
Parameters and dimensions of metal tiles for the roof
Important: right away, we observe that the metal roof tiles’ sizes are not uniform. In other words, GOST does not control the specifications for roofing materials. The coating exhibits a fairly wide range of variations in the sheet’s length, width, and profile height.
- The thickness of the metal roofing profile is determining for the strength of the coating. The thickness is 0.37 mm, but such a roof is rarely used due to its low strength. In particular, the thickness of the steel sheet is 0.45 mm. Copper and aluminum coating thicker (up to 0.8-1 mm).
Important: It’s best to measure the coating’s actual thickness before purchasing any material and compare it to the values listed in the technical passport. If it is thinner than stated, there may be issues with transportation and roof installation. A roof like that will be more erratic and prone to distortion.
- Sheet length. Varies in the range of 0.8-8 m. Such a variety of coating lengths makes it possible to cover the roof without horizontal overlaps with one continuous cloth, which increases the tightness of the roof.
- The width of the product. Here the range in width is 1.16-1.19 m. Often the width sets the size of the wave of the wave/profile.
- Profile height. Most often varies within 27-75 mm. Here you need to know that a metal tile with a profile of more than 50 mm is much more expensive, since such a parameter increases the stiffness of the coating.
- The step of the profile. Basically is 35-40 cm, but there is always the opportunity to order other coating parameters under your roof.
Important: The manufacturer may alter the sheet parameters in one way or another if you require unique standard sizes for the metal tile that is meant for your roof. This method of handling the house’s overlap allows for a reduction in the acquisition costs.
Full and useful area of sheets of metal tiles
Knowing the size of the sheet’s metal tiles is insufficient to provide a high-quality roof covering. It is also important to realize that the profile has a helpful section. That is, the value that is determined by deducting the length and width that reach the ground in centimeters. Thus, the width and length of the coating sheet are measured to determine its main area. The data is then multiplied.
The method of basic subtraction of the overlap width yields the useful area (or simply width/length) of the material. A metal grade typically has a vertical overlap of 6–8 cm. If a horizontal overlap is created, it ought to be marginally bigger (10–15 cm) in order to stop water from seeping beneath the roof.
Important: Use specialized sealing tape to seal all joints and overflows when laying the profile.
The sizes of sheets of metal tiles of the most popular manufacturers
The scope of the metal -wishes
Such roofing material is primarily used to overlap the roofs of residential structures, including shopping centers, cottages, and other residential buildings. It is important to note that the roof’s usability is contingent upon the slopes’ angle of inclination. At least 14 degrees should be reached. In addition, a metal-based profile’s high strength makes it perfect for covering big spaces. However, it is best to avoid using metal tiles on roofs with intricate configurations.
Important: Using roofing metal on a home’s roof in a seaside area is acceptable, but only if the roof has been coated with a premium, unique polymer made of salt.
Parameters of the premature elements of the roof
It’s important to be aware that the metal tile has specific requirements, but that the other roof components also have their own requirements. especially at the wind panel (pediment) and skate. The products in this case are primarily 2 meters long. However, it is important to keep in mind that it always goes to the ground when laying roughly 10 cm of useful length. That is, their actual length must be divided by 1.9 to determine the skate’s or pediment’s total length. A rounding is done on the resultant value.
Advice: it’s important to accurately calculate everything using the above table before purchasing any metal roof tiles. In other words, for every type of profile, pay attention to the standard dimensions of the sheet (dimensions and dimensions) of the roofing. Thus, the least amount of waste will be used in the construction of your metal tile roof.

Contabbed elements for roof from corrugated board and metal tiles
The metal or corrugated board roof is aesthetically pleasing and offers dependable wind and precipitation protection for the area beneath it. Special planks are used underneath the dust and other particle roof to prevent it from happening. To complete the roof’s appearance and add decoration, metal tile roofs require additional components. Additionally, these products help ensure that the sheets of the main roof are docked in a reliable manner.
These specials are created using the same material as a metal tile or a professional, in accordance with the technological scheme. Additional elements come in various varieties with varying sizes, shapes, and purposes. Let’s examine the primary preemptive factors for metal and corrugated board roofs.
Skate element
The installation of the ridge unit is guaranteed by the regular operation of a gable or multi-sized roof. Several components of this design are mounted based on the node’s constructive solution:
- Skate bar. This is an obligatory element. Types of the skate: flat, semicircular, figured and trapezoidal.
- Y-shaped and T-shaped tees. Connect three separate ribs of a semicircular skate. With the help of a Y-shaped, a joint of three skating elements on a four-sided roof is arranged. T-shaped are used for perpendicular compound.
- Metal cap of the skate. Used only for a skate bar of a semicircular type. There are flat, conical and tent plugs. They prevent the hit in the subcutaneous space of garbage and precipitation.
- Slot under the horse.
The size of the same type of skate element varies. The radius of a semicircular, or round, horse ranges from 70 to 125 mm. The size and roof’s design characteristics are the only factors that determine which to use. Most roofs have metal tiles mounted on the semicircular skates.
Skate elements that are trapezoidal, curly, and flat are common. They go well with any kind of roof configuration and are appropriate for any kind of material. Removing the skate’s wing, which measures 300 by 300 mm instead of 115 by 115 mm depending on the roof’s size, shape, and slope.
Its length is 2000 mm, regardless of the type of ridge element. However, certain manufacturers alter the product’s size in accordance with special customer requests.
If the roof structure has a joint between two slopes that have an internal angle that is negative, then the element is installed. Endova is installed so that any melting or rainwater is directed toward the drainage on the inner joint.
Similar to horses, apple bars come in multiple varieties with varying configurations and functions:
- Lower or inner bar. It is not visible on the roof, since it is mounted under the roofing sheets. Is a simple bent in the middle of the bar.
- Upper or outer Endova is located on top of the lower valine bar over the sheets of the material. In configuration, it does not differ from the internal.
- Curly or decorative yend. The location is the same as the upper bar. The difference is that this recoil element, in addition to draining water, also performs the function of decorating the appearance of the roof.
The apple bar’s standard length is 2000 millimeters.
The end bar
Mounted on the end side of the roof is the end (wind) bar. Its function is to shield roofing sheets from the wind and to keep water from penetrating the wooden portion of the roof pie. Furthermore, this element prohibits birds and insects from entering a sub-sector. Lastly, the end bar serves only as roof decoration.
The wind bar type offered by metal tile manufacturers is bent in the middle. Its wings range in size from 100 to 250 mm, based on the needs of the client. This element has an embossed and smooth surface. 2000 mm is the standard length.
Carnetic bar
The cornice bar is actually a curved ebb. The primary purposes are to direct water flow into the gutters and shield the cornice board from outside influences. This prescription element’s shelf widths are arranged in a 1 to 1.5 ratio. The wings measure 2 meters in length and 70 by 100 and 100 by 150 mm.
A cornice bar is used in conjunction with this element. Collectively, they form an essential component of the roof pie’s cornice. On the wooden bar in front is a dropper. Shelves, length 2 m, width 40-50 x 100-110 mm.
Snow holders
For the snow to collect from the roof in a uniform and smooth manner, snow holders, or snowups, are required. Furthermore, they have the ability to postpone the falling of roofing material, which can occur during installation, repair, or when high winds are present. Over the whole width of the roof, these components are fastened in a line parallel to the cornice.
The former are fastened to the roof’s edge using hooks and suspended supports. They are mounted on high-rise structures’ and cottages’ pitched roofs. Because pointed are positioned throughout the roof, they can safely avoid small patches of snow during gatherings. Tubular snow holders can be mounted in a checkerboard pattern or in a single line on the roof.
The accuracy, dependability, and quality of the roof are largely dependent on the elements, installation dependability, and parameters that are chosen. Furthermore, these additions lend the roof a polished appearance.

The roof’s finishing metal components are coated in a color that matches the primary sheets of galvanized steel (see the catalog of flower palette (ral), RR, for more information).
Production of the roof’s prefix components is done in a manner similar to that of metal tile sheets. The painted galvanized steel sheet is cut, bent, and given the required shape using specialized automatic machinery that is programmed with electronics. The final product is examined to make sure it fits the required size and packaging specifications.
The cutting of the sheets comes after profiling, which is a technological distinction between the production of roofing sheets and dobctions.

The purpose of the seal beneath the horse is to fill the space so that it does not fall beneath the elements of dust, moisture, or insects on the roofing. To guarantee ventilation, the ridge’s sealing tape needs to be airtight.
Metal tile ridge sealant types include:
The universal ridge seal is made in 30×40 and 30×50 sizes and is installed beneath the horse, yendova, and planks in the locations that are adjacent.
The figure (profile) seal beneath the horse is made with unique ventilation holes and replicates the shape of the metal tile.
The roof’s skate and cornices are sealed with a wedge-shaped self-adhesive ridge seal. Rectangular-profiled self-adhesive sealing tape is also available for metal tiles.
An aircraft ridge tape for metal tape is placed beneath the horse to arrange ventilation of the subcutaneous space (see photo). The resulting subconic ribbon is 5 m long and 220 mm wide.
Carnetic bar
Rainstreams are directed into the drainage gutter by the metal cornice for the roof, which also keeps the cornice dry.
The cornice bar for a metal tile roof (see photo) is released in the following dimensions: product length 2000 mm, shelf width 100 × 69.
For any other kind of roof covering, a metal roller from a metal tile is also required.

End (wind)
A metal tile roof’s end bar serves three primary purposes:
- Protection of wooden elements of the rafter system (rafter legs, crate) located on the end of the roof, from moisture (rain).
- Protection of the rafter system and roofing pie from wind load. This feature gave the end bar the second name – the wind.
- Decorative design of the end of the roof.
The roofing wind bar is 2 meters long, and different manufacturers have different types and transverse dimensions for their metal end bars (see Figure 6 for an example in centimeters).

The plank of the adjoining
The adjacent bar completes the roof’s hermetic design at the points where the slope meets the wall, the chimney passes through, and the stove goes through the roof.
As seen in Figure 7, there are two varieties of roofing metal adjacency planks: upper, which are installed above the metal tile, and lower, which are installed prior to the sheets being fastened.
Figure 7 shows a smoke pipe passage knot with a circuit of the nearby planks through a metal tank roof.
The pipe diameters in Figure 8 correspond to the metal planes next to the walls in centimeters. Length of product: 2 meters.

Roof ventilation from metal tiles, pipe outputs to the roof
The pitched roof’s ventilation system maintains regular air circulation in the space beneath the covering, averages the temperature of the metal sheets’ upper and lower surfaces, and prevents condensation from forming on the roofing sheets.
A ventilated horse is set up (option B in Scheme 9) and special ventilation outputs are mounted on the roof (option A in Figure 9) for aeration. It is advisable to use Scheme A (installation of aerators) in the incomplete space between the rafters (when the insulation is laid in an inter-story floor in the case of a cold attic). In the event that the insulation is laid continuously in between the rafters, Scheme B (ventilated horse) would apply.

Roofing screws for metal tiles
Metal tile self-tapping screws are made of galvanized steel and come in the following sizes: Ø4.8 mm 28, 35 mm (for mounting in the wave’s bottom) and Ø4.8 mm 70, 80 mm (for mounting in the snow retainer, skate) waves. The self-tapping screw hats have a rubber EPD seal for hermetic adjoining to the roofing sheets and are painted the same color as the sheets.
Pitch | The steepness or angle of the roof slope. |
Eaves | The lower edge of the roof that overhangs the wall. |
To ensure the longevity and functionality of a roof, it is essential to comprehend the dimensions of its main components. Roof dimensions include a variety of components, all of which are essential to the overall structural integrity of the building. These measurements have an immediate effect on the roof’s capacity to endure weather and support the weight it carries, from the pitch or slope that controls water runoff to the size and spacing of the rafters that provide support.
In addition, factors like the size and positioning of trusses—which evenly distribute weight throughout the structure and improve stability—are taken into account when calculating roof dimensions. Furthermore, because the coverage and overlap of roofing materials, like shingles or tiles, determine their resistance to wind damage and water infiltration, their dimensions impact both protection and aesthetics.
Furthermore, it’s critical to comprehend the sizes of overhangs and eaves. In addition to protecting walls from water, these features also improve energy efficiency by offering ventilation and shade. Water cannot seep into the foundation thanks to properly dimensioned eaves, protecting the structural integrity of the entire building.
To sum up, understanding the measurements of every part of a roof is essential to guaranteeing its durability. Informed decisions that improve the roof’s functionality and aesthetic appeal while guaranteeing weather protection can be made by homeowners and builders by taking into account variables such as slope, rafter spacing, truss dimensions, and the size of roofing materials and overhangs.
